I’m sure you may have already heard, but I can finally say with full confidence that as of October 19, 2020, you are free and welcome to visit, look at properties, and explore the beautiful place I call home… Belize. Since reopening to international leisure travel, incoming flights have been at more than 80% capacity, filled with eager travelers who are ready to enjoy Belize even with the restrictions. While the number of COVID-19 cases continues to grow in Belize since the last update, as well as the deaths, they are still extremely low when compared to our neighbors…
The Philip Goldson International Airport is opening October 1, 2020 and as you could guess, flights are fully booked. Many have called us recently and ask if they can come and look at properties. My opinion is that it would be best to wait until the Government of Belize and the Belize Tourism Board have worked out some of the unforeseen kinks. Here’s what we do know about visiting Belize according to the entry requirements at this time. Those with “Business interests will include those visiting to inspect or close on a purchase of property – meaning, those that can show a Purchase agreement, and…
September 1 starts our Independence month. September is full of parties and celebrations. Not so much this year due to COVID-19. Gaining our independence from Britain on September 21, 1981, Belize has had a stable, democratic government. Voting is universal for Belizeans over 18 years old but not mandatory. The country’s government is a constitutional monarchy and parliamentary democracy. They recognize Queen Elizabeth II as the head of state, represented by a Governor-General, which should be a Belizean national who is appointed by the Prime Minister and is their head of government. The bicameral legislature, the National Assembly, is composed…
September is festival time in Belize. In 1981, our young country established its independence, and each year we celebrate for the entire month of September. Normally there are beauty pageants, parades, parties, and celebrations; this year will be very different since we have that pesky COVID-19. Belize is known to be creative, and so we’ll have to see what activities they have planned. On September 2, 2020, we had a CAT 1 hurricane, Nana, hit land. She struck between Dangriga and Placencia, causing debris and fallen trees. For the most part, Nana was mild for a hurricane, and we faired well through…
Our last COVID-19 Update was on July 16, 2020 and Belize had 37 cases with 2 deaths due to the coronavirus. The Philip Goldson International Airport was to open August 15, 2020. The excitement was growing as the airport was opening and things seemed to be getting back to the “new normal” then the perfect storm happened. We had a few positive cases of the coronavirus. The cases were on repatriated flights back into Belize and those persons would go right into a 14-day quarantine. They were tested and if they were positive, then they were quarantined longer. People began…
